Poolside House

Time living in California and frequent trips to the modernist capital of Palm Springs, influenced the interiors of the ‘Poolside House’ in Melbourne. Colour was key, as was the desire for glamour and a point of difference. Using the client’s favourite navy and plum as a starting point, a cohesive palette of sophisticated jewel colours was introduced through the home, most notably in the furniture – the electric blue velvet Grazia & Co circular lounge and the rich plum Little Tulip dining chairs by Pierre Paulin for Artifort being cases in point – and commissioned artworks. Considered splashes of vibrant wallpaper such as Gucci’s Tiger Leaf print and Catherine Martin’s La Palma design for Mokum add a playful touch, while statement lighting including a custom Articolo double pendant ramp up the glamour. Curves were considered important to counteract the sharp lines of a new build and this sometimes resulted in Bree Leech designing custom pieces – such as the marble-topped oval dining table with brass legs – to get the desired look. The result is a house that’s modern with a strong use of colour that is both sophisticated and relaxed and introduces that hint of California cool that our clients so craved.
